This is a photo series my dear friend Maddy and I created this December. I wanted to honor the winter sun by capturing cold and color simultaneously. I had the weird idea of freezing flowers in a block of ice, and we just went for it from there. I like to think of this as a modern take on the art historical “Still Life” genre. Still Lifes are meant to capture the thin line between life and death, immortalizing a fleeting moment in the life of some flowers or a bowl of fruit. Stopping time in the only way we can. This was our version of stopping time and holding onto the beautiful color and light of winter. I hope you like it, and I hope you can feel how cold that ice was on our bare skin through the pictures!
